Dave flew back to AZ and helped pack our remaining stuff into another full size U-Haul. This time space was precious! We had to get everything into it because his brother Paul was coming to drive that so Dave could drive the truck pulling our camper and I was driving the van. Whew! The plan was to leave on June 8th and get to Ogden, UT and then all the way to our house the next day. Two very long 13+ days. To put it mildly, I do not do well when driving for a long time because I go to sleep. I am a little narcoleptic behind the wheel. I was pretty nervous about this for months! I did pretty good and only drifted into the other lane once (that I can remember...) :-) I ate a lot of sunflower seeds tho. We packed up the grand piano first and got that into the truck and then Dave started packing everything else. There was absolutely NO room to spare. And Mother Nature didn't give us any kind of a break. It had been pretty mild until literally the day before he arrived and then she hit us with everything she had and turned up the heat. We(He) packed the truck in 118 degree heat for three days straight. It was so miserable. But we made our deadline. The only loss was our wonderful Argus. He had been going downhill for a while and then just a week before had a very bad injury to one of his paws. He struggled to walk. We made the difficult decision to have him put down before we left with our favorite vet so she take care of him the way we would want him to be taken care of. We didn't want to get on the road and have something happen and then have to do it anyway with someone we didn't know. We were also extremely concerned about all the stairs we have in our house. It just seemed the most humane thing to do, although we miss him terribly.
We had a professional come and pack up the piano and put in on the truck, and then others came and set it up again at our new house. |
