Last night was Pack 653's annual fundraising banquet. All the boys along with their father's were asked to bake and decorate a cake that was auctioned off to the highest bidder. This is where they make the majority of their money for the year. The theme this year was Nature. Jake and his Dad baked a two layer, 9x13, vanilla layer cake and decorated it like a forest; complete with a lake, tent, sleeping bag, and bear.
We thought we'd take top prize until we saw all the other amazing cakes. People really went all out for this! There was even a volcano cake with sugar sculpture lava spewing out the top. Unreal!
Anyway, they worked awfully hard and did a super job and I'm so proud of them! Especially since Jake had to work around his Dad being called out to work all weekend. This was his on-call week and crime doesn't stop when you have a cake to bake. But they got it done and it was great.
It went for a whopping $230 dollars to our very own Pop Hagar. It really pays to take your own bidding team. Papa Speidel kept the bidding going for quite a while. In the end, Pop bought it, and Jake got to take it home again. He was really hoping he would.
We also thought we'd win the prize for highest bid cake, but we were bid out by, get this, a dead bird cake. I must admit, it was pretty funny. It went for $250. Can you believe it?
So no prizes, just a great night and a lot of fun.
