This year we participated in the W. Stephen Martin Toy Drive. It's for any police officer or fireman who would like to adopt a needy family for the holidays. You can fill out the appropriate paperwork and then go to their warehouse and "shop" for each child in the family. We were able to pick out 3 presents for each child. The family we adopted was a single mom of 4 with one on the way, so we also bought a bunch of groceries for her and some pampers and some family type games that they had wanted and also got the mom a gift certificate to Walmart because we didn't have any idea what she might need. They were living with her sister in a one bedroom apartment, and when we got there to deliver the stuff, I think it was a real eye opener for our kids because there were about 7 or 8 people in this little living room, a double bed in the kitchen and absolutely no presents under the tree. I explained that probably the only presents they were going to get this year could be the ones that we gave them. They were pretty quiet about the whole thing. It feels good help people, but sad to know that there are so many more out there.
