On October 10th, we decided to take a drive and run out to Canyon Lake to have a picnic lunch. We made our sandwiches, packed our chips and cokes, and took off. We had a great time. It was a beautiful day. The bees were buzzing and eventually chased us away from our picnic table. So we went over to the docks where the kids were able to play in the water for a little while. We drove past Tortilla Flats to where the road turns into gravel and eventually finds its way to Apache Lake (the scene of a great injustice to me once upon a time!). We stopped at the gravel and turned around, but right at the top of the mountain were a family of mountain goats. We got some wonderful pictures of the them. Dave did his Steve Irwin impression and got up close and personal. On the way back into town, we stopped at the Goldfield Ghost Town and Gold Mine. In all the time we've lived here, we've never been there. We went into their little venomous animal exhibit and the kids panned for gold and we felt very touristy. Then that night, since we were supposed to have gone away for the weekend and the kids were rather upset about that, we set up the tent in the backyard and we all slept outside. Yes, all of us. It was a great day!
